Angus v Fife at Panmure Golf Club on Sunday 29th March.
After the high winds of the previous day the first match of the Provan Salver turned out to be a good day for golf with only a light wind allowing for some great golf to be played by both teams. Current Matchplay champion, Dan Lawerence, led out Angus against current Scottish Internationalist Connor Syme. An excellent birdie two from Dan at the ninth brought the match back to level but he found himself 2 down with 5 to play. A strong finish however from Dan resulted in a square game. In the second game Will Bremner faced another current Scottish Internationalist in Ben Kingsley with Will coming out on top 2 & 1 – a very good scalp indeed. The experienced Gary Tough was simply too good on the day for Ally Hain, running out a 6 & 5 winner. Chris Hutcheon also produced some excellent and steady golf eventually seeing off his opponent Stevie Aitken at the 17th. The 5th match proved a close battle between the big hitters Danny Elder and Greg Forrester. Danny managed to square the game on the 17th with an excellent birdie 3 but unfortunately a poor drive on the 18th allowed Greg to prevail one up. Scottish Senior Internationalist Graham Bell faced another big hitter in Ryan Walsh and despite a late rally of birdies from Graham, Ryan won 4 & 2. In the penultimate game Stuart Smith faced Kevin Blyth as he has done on a number of occasions. A tight game all the way resulted in the match being halved at the 18th. In the bottom match the reliable Raymond Perry faced another big hitter in Alex Moir. Somewhat surprisingly Raymond was 5 down after 8 but superb sub-par golf thereafter from Raymond resulted in Alex having to hole a difficult 5 foot put on the last to win 1 up.
The final team score was Angus 4 Fife 4. A good result for Angus against a very strong Fife team.
